Bradley Beach is planning on holding an election in November to fill the vacant seat on the Borough Council left by Jeff Quixley, who resigned because he is moving out of town.
Quixley's resignation became effective Dec. 31.
Mayor Stephen Schueler, who ran with Quixley last year, said the council has 60 days to fill the position until the election. If the council fails to agree on a replacement the state will step in.
"We have a period of 60 days to come up with a consensus," Schueler said.
Schueler and four other residents, including Quixley, were elected in May. There is three years left on the term.
At least one resident - Harold Lowe, a dispatcher in the borough police department, is interested in the position. Lowe has worked for the borough for six years. He is retired from the Air Force and said he plans to submit a resume for the vacant seat.
